I had such a wonderful time photographing Chelsea and Alex’s engagement session at Huntley Meadows in Northern Virginia. This park is such a hidden gem with its peaceful boardwalks, tall grasses, and soft golden light. It was the perfect backdrop for a couple whose connection feels as easy and genuine as theirs.
We actually started their session at Alex’s mom’s house so they could include their adorable Aussie mix, Sidney, in a few photos before heading to the park. I always love when couples bring their pets — it adds such a personal, meaningful touch, and Sidney was a total natural in front of the camera!
From the moment we started walking the trails, it was clear how much love and thoughtfulness these two share. Chelsea describes herself as empathetic and creative, while Alex calls himself passionate and thoughtful. And together, they’re the kind of couple who bring out the very best in each other.
Their shared love of birdwatching, reading, pilates, and board games makes them such a fun and down-to-earth pair. They even share a love for horror movies, which I think says so much about their adventurous and curious spirits!
Chelsea works as a Graphic Designer for The Nature Conservancy, channeling her creativity into meaningful causes. Alex works in cybersecurity, and the two together create a blend of heart and logic that perfectly mirrors their relationship. When they’re not working, they love spending time at Dominion Wine Bar and Beer Garden. They also like revisiting special places like Dogfish Head Brewpub, where they had their very first date.
Their love story began when Chelsea moved across the country for a new job. After chatting online for a few weeks, they finally met in person the same day she started her new job. From that first evening, something just clicked. As Alex put it, he loved meeting her in a place that already meant something to him, and even more so when it became special to them both.
Fast forward to their proposal in Charlottesville. Alex planned a day of winery visits despite Chelsea struggling with back pain. He took such gentle care of her throughout the day, making sure she still enjoyed every moment. That evening, back at their cozy Airbnb, Alex proposed as they sat together on the screened porch, surrounded by fireflies and their beloved old dog, Scout. It was a moment that perfectly reflected the tenderness and thoughtfulness of their relationship.
When I asked what they love most about being engaged, Chelsea shared how much she enjoys planning a celebration that reflects who they are as a couple and what matters most to them. Alex said he’s loved the chance to pause and reflect on their relationship, appreciating all that they’ve built together.
Chelsea and Alex, thank you for letting me capture this beautiful chapter in your story. Your kindness, warmth, and genuine connection made this session an absolute joy. I can’t wait to celebrate your wedding day with you soon!
