There is an old saying that a little rain on your wedding day is good luck, but what about a thunderstorm during your engagement session? For Michaela and Wade’s UVA Rotunda engagement session, Mother Nature decided to provide some serious drama—and honestly, it only made their connection shine brighter.
Michaela and Wade both come from big families (she’s one of six; he’s one of five!), so they are used to a little bit of chaos. Perhaps that’s why they stayed so calm as the clouds began to roll in over Charlottesville. Michaela and Wade share a bond that is rooted in being “easy to talk to.” From the day they met, they realized their values and goals aligned perfectly. That steady, supportive energy was on full display as we raced against the elements!
We started the session in the East Courtyard of the Rotunda at the University of Virginia. Between the architectural beauty and Michaela’s organized, empathetic nature, every shot felt intentional. Wade’s easygoing personality kept the mood light, even as the sky turned a deep, cinematic slate grey. We were able to capture their love against the iconic backdrop of the Lawn, highlighting:
As the rumbles of thunder echoed across the grounds and the first flashes of lightning flickered in the distance, I knew we had to call it a wrap. We ended the session a bit early to stay safe, but there was something incredibly romantic about the “electric” energy in the air.
Just like their relationship, they took the sudden change in plans in stride. After all, when you’ve found the person who makes you feel “comfortable, heard, and at ease,” a little thunder is just part of the adventure.
“I love getting to plan our future… talking about the wedding details makes for fun date nights!” — Michaela
Michaela and Wade, thank you for being such good sports and for bringing the heat even when the storm was rolling in!
