There is a quiet magic to the University of Virginia grounds in the early morning. Before the bustle of students begins, the light around the Lawn and the Rotunda is a soft, golden hue. It was the perfect, peaceful setting for Emily’s UVA 4th year photo session.
Emily met me bright and early to take advantage of the morning light. As a 4th year preparing to walk the Lawn, she wanted her portraits to reflect the hard work and diverse interests that defined her time at the University.
Emily proudly wore two distinct stoles that represented her multifaceted collegiate journey:
The symmetry of the Rotunda provided a sophisticated backdrop that allowed Emily’s personality—and her earned stoles—to take center stage.
One of the most unique elements Emily wanted to incorporate was her passion for bouldering. We had originally hoped to head over to the Slaughter Recreation Center to capture some shots of her on the climbing wall.
Even though we weren’t able to get into the gym that morning, Emily’s adventurous spirit still defined the session. The same focus, balance, and determination required for bouldering are the exact traits she’s used to navigate her Engineering degree. While we missed the physical wall, the strength she gained there was evident in every confident smile on the Rotunda steps!
The quiet, early morning light over the Lawn felt like the perfect metaphor for Emily’s next chapter. The calm before the day began mirrored the steady way she has left her mark on both the academic and recreational communities at UVA. As graduation nears and her 4th year comes to a close, her journey is just beginning!”

The Rotunda is a classic choice for your final year, but your photos should be as unique as your time at the University. Whether you want to showcase your stoles, your favorite hobby, or your favorite hidden garden, I’m here to capture your story.
