For Raichyl’s session, we headed to Miller School of Albemarle, and let me tell you—this campus is a photographer’s dream. With its historic architecture and sweeping views, it provided the perfect stage for a girl who is used to being in the spotlight.
Every session has its own unique energy, and this one started with a classic mother-daughter moment. Right out of the gate, Raichyl’s mom mentioned she wasn’t the biggest fan of the first outfit choice and suggested we breeze past it.
Raichyl, with the perfect timing you’d expect from a drama club standout, didn’t miss a beat: “I can hear you, Mom!”
I just had to laugh and reassure them both—we had plenty of time, and my goal was to make sure everyone walked away happy. Whether it was the “controversial” first outfit or the crowd-pleasing second one, Raichyl looked absolutely stunning in every single frame.
Being part of the drama club clearly paid off. Raichyl is a natural when it comes to expressions; she knows how to work it and shift her mood every time I asked for something different.
We also bonded over a shared niche passion: calligraphy. The patience and precision required to create this art of beautiful lettering translates into a great eye for detail, and I think that’s why Raichyl was so easy to direct. She just gets aesthetics.
By the time we reached the end of the second look, Raichyl was definitely feeling the fatigue of a busy senior schedule. When she mentioned she wasn’t up for a third outfit change, her mom was totally okay with ending the session early. She was thrilled with the shots we’d captured in the second look, so we decided to call it a day early.
Pro Tip: You don’t need four hours and five outfits to get a diverse gallery.
Even though we cut the time short, Raichyl’s gallery is overflowing. Because she was such a pro with her posing and the Miller School offers so many different “looks” within walking distance, we captured a full session’s worth of variety in record time.
I absolutely love capturing high school seniors during such a pivotal, “threshold” moment in their lives. Each session offers a new opportunity to tell a unique story, and highlighting Raichyl’s personality against the backdrop of her school was a total highlight. If you are getting ready to step into your final year and want portraits that feel like you, I would love to chat!
