It never fails when I spend a couple of weeks at the beach a storm will roll in and I’m forced inside. So what do I do when that happens? I ask my granddaughter if she will be my model for the afternoon and we have a rainy day portrait session!
Taylor is always willing to model for me. When I was in photography school, I had projects I had to complete and submit for evaluation. Taylor always steps up when I ask! She is always easy going and happy to accommodate me. She never complains and is just so stinking sweet. Can you tell I adore my granddaughter? While I was working with her, my grandson, Talan asked when he could have his turn! Ummm, can you sit or stand where I want you to and smile or give me a serious face when I ask? When he found out he couldn’t make silly faces and act goofy, he said “No thanks”! LOL!
My goal for this practice session was to work on portrait lighting in different locations in the house, as well as, posing practice for individual female portraits. It forces me to work within the confines of a given room. I don’t always have tons of space or good lighting when photographing weddings, so, I have to work with what I have even if it isn’t ideal. It also makes me setup lighting according to the space I have. I’ve heard many well-known photographers say that you must continue to practice your craft no matter how much experience you have. Professional ballplayers don’t stop practicing when they make it to the big leagues and neither should professional photographers! I know there is always something I can practice or learn!
I’m always looking to improve and one of the ways I do is by taking classes online! I love learning how to improve my photography skills and then putting what I learned into practice! So for now, I’m busy working on improving my skills and winter is always a good time to do this as it is usually most photographers’ slow season. No one really wants to go outside for photos during winter, am I right?
I hope Taylor never tires of posing for me and if you would be interested in a practice session with me, be sure to email me! I always have something I would like to work on and need models. (Just because I say models does not mean experience required. My preference is no experience so I can work on my posing skills as well!)
