Senior sessions are one of my favorite things to photograph and Caleb’s Senior Session was truly a blast! Caleb scheduled his session at his alma mater, Mary Baldwin University in Staunton and I couldn’t wait to see the campus! It’s SO beautiful!
I met Caleb and his mom, Pam at the Student activity center for the start of our session! Caleb is a total riot and had me laughing through his entire session! I love sessions like this!
Obviously, there is more to Caleb than his hilarious personality! I wanted to make sure I had all the details correct so I sent Pam a message asking if I was remembering correctly what they told me about his plans after graduation and his baseball career at Mary Baldwin. I figured she would give me a couple of sentences or say my memory was correct but she wrote this wonderfully detailed history.
Since I can’t do a better job writing this, I’m quoting her! Pam says: “Caleb is majoring in education, certifying in elementary education. He was a right-handed pitcher and middle infielder on the baseball team. Caleb was one of the original members of this new team. The program started in 2019-20. How he got there was a story of resilience.
Caleb was a star player at Charlottesville High School, with a batting average of .467. He was selected to 2nd team All-Jefferson District. Caleb, also was a member of the 2017 American Legion Post 74 team, that won the State title, and made it to the semi-finals in the Mid-Atlantic regionals.
Caleb had a couple of schools looking at him out of high school, but no definitive offers. He chose to attend Old Dominion University, and played club baseball there for 2 years. Still wanting to play college ball, his name was given to the coach at Mary Baldwin, and he made the transfer.
Caleb mainly pitched for Mary Baldwin until this year, he decided to focus mainly on his skills as an infielder. Now that he’s a graduating senior, he is still driven to play out his eligibility at another school. Baseball is his first love, and his passion is teaching younger kids.
Last summer, Caleb started giving private lessons to area little leaguers and junior league players, teaching them hitting, fielding, and pitching skills. He has made this into a small business for himself. Caleb plans to get his masters degree in education and continue to play baseball while working on his masters degree next year.
Where that will be at this point, we don’t know. He is applying to a few different schools. His ultimate goal is to become a High School baseball coach while teaching elementary school. His favorite grade is 2nd grade.
Caleb always managed to keep playing. He’s played in many wood-bat summer leagues over the past 4-5 years: Tidewater League, Piedmont Collegiate League, Rockingham Baseball League (for Stuarts Draft Diamondbacks), and the Richmond Adult League. Though it’s been an uphill battle for him, he’s never given up!”
Caleb, you’re amazing and I’m so excited I could document this major life event! Congratulations!!
