Madeleine & Christopher’s Engagment Session at Maymont Park in Richmond is truly stunning! Not only did Maddie pick a great location but she nailed the outfits. When clients truly plan what they want for their session from the outfits to the backdrop, I’m in heaven. People asked multiple times if they were getting married as we wandered around and they received lots of Congratulations!
When I prep brides for their session, I tell them bring an extra pair of comfortable shoes so their feet don’t hurt walking from one location to another. I laughed when Maddie went barefoot. I cannot do that but Maddie navigated the stairs to the Japanese Garden without issue! Seriously, it was impressive!
As always, I send a get-to-know-you questionnaire and I love sharing their answers. Here they are!
Maddie & Chris met working together in Radiation Oncology at UVa. They didn’t date right away so when I asked about the day they met, they may not actually remember that specific day. Chris says they already knew each other through work, but they didn’t REALLY know each other until they sat down on their first date. The conversation just flowed so naturally. He says, they can talk about anything and everything since then.
I asked Maddie what her favorite quality is about Chris. She says, “Too many to pick just one! He is incredibly kind and hardworking. He cares about people and is a great listener. And he has a great sense of humor!”
Chris says his favorite quality about Maddie is, “She is equal parts fierce and giving. She will stand up for what she believes, even if it is not convenient to do so, yet she puts others before herself whenever she is given the opportunity. It is that effortless balance of generosity with a steadfast spirit that earns my undying respect and devotion. She is in many ways that classic image of the valkyrie, armed with a sword and shield, selfless but unflinching.”
I asked them what their favorite thing about being engaged. Chris says, “Growing together! I have learned just as much about myself as I have learned about her during these months. We have grown as individual people, and as a couple.” Maddie says, “Being engaged has been really fun because we are just starting to plan our lives together. He is also the first person I have ever lived with besides my family or roommates in college, so it’s great to have someone who feels like “home”.
And finally I asked them to tell me about the day they were engaged. Maddie wrote, “It was very out of character for Chris!” He says: “It was an elaborate setup: a family vacation at Disney World, and I booked a Disney photographer first thing in the morning at Epcot. I described it to her as family photos, and while it started as that, I soon dropped to one knee and proposed. She was definitely shocked and tearful, but it was a magical moment. Because we did it in the Italy section of Epcot, we decided to get married in the real Italy!”
