When a couple’s story brings together an ER nurse who used to compete in professional rodeos and a VMI graduate with a calm, stoic nature, you know their connection is something special. Their love story actually traces back to a nudge from Maddy’s dad, who suggested they date before she even made her move from Arizona to Virginia. Less than a month after she arrived, they went on their first official date—and the rest was history. Fast-forward to Maddy’s nursing school graduation party at her parents’ home in Fork Union: surrounded by both sets of parents, family, and close friends, Zach completely surprised her with a proposal she never saw coming.

Last fall, I met Maddy and Zach among the vines for their Save the Date engagement session, framing a picture-perfect preview of their wedding day. Maddy came thoughtfully prepared to make the afternoon uniquely theirs. Joined by her mom, who crafted a gorgeous fresh bouquet right on site, every detail reflected personal sentiment and warmth. To mark the milestone, Maddy and Zach brought along a blanket, custom-engraved wine glasses, and a bottle featuring a custom-designed label printed with their upcoming wedding date.

As the sun began to dip behind the rolling vineyard rows, they took a quiet moment to sit, unwind, and share a glass of wine together in the fields where they will gather with family and friends to celebrate their marriage this coming weekend. Capturing their laughter, gentle connection, and anticipation for starting their next chapter made for an unforgettable session.
